Stellan Skarsgård Talks About His Time in the Marvel Universe: Understanding Women and Having Fun with Crazy Roles
Stellan Skarsgård is a well known actor who portrayed Doctor Erik Selvig in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Thor, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Age of Ultron, and Thor: Love and Thunder. What many may not know is that this fan of Marvel at the given time was not aware of any of the comic character as he had not read a single line of Marvel comics before all this. Even so, the experience did provide him something which he considers valuable.
Car Chats
Stellan Skarsgård was recently interviewed for Vanity Fair to promote Dune: Part Two and was able to reflect on his time as a Marvel actor. He had interesting Mr. Thor scenes because there were many of them with female actresses, and he had co-starred with them quite a lot which opened his eyes to women a bit more. He states:
“Kat Dennings, Natalie Portman, and I – we were the trio. In all the shooting we were always together and it was a blast. I went through a lot of funny stuff and saw a great deal more about them than I was ever aware of because most of us were in a locked car and I listened to a lot of females talk about how they look at men. Yes, there was nothing I knew which was how it was. You get wiser.” Autopsy Scene.
Activism Meets Popcorn
Marvel films while entertaining for most can as well be cringeworthy but it raises the question as to why Stellan Skarsgård decided to step in. After all, he is an Oscar-winner actor with a silver bear from Berlin International Film Festival one of the biggest film festivals worldwide.
It, however, doesn’t regret the decision of being cast as minor actors in big movies such as these:
Avoid working too much and thinking about the roles you perform, and simply remember why it was so good in the first place: There is no reason to feel guilty about taking a less than honorable step.
The actor also had a reason to turn down the film as he claimed it was primarily because of Kenneth Branagh’s direction who signed him for Thor:
*Kenneth Branagh was among the first people I knew, and I had to sign him for a location. It still seems at first a hard decision to make out since there are at least four contracts when one is offered. I think I felt a feeling of selling my soul to the devil at that point. *
Any plans of rejoining Marvel?
To say that Skarsgård has got over the film would be an understatement as he did enjoy it but had worked hard for the character of Selvig, but he’s not completely shutting the door on the Marvel universe as he knows there will always be a need. Doctor Selvig could just be around the corner – more is on the way from Avengers: Secret Wars, and fans would love to see him.
There are possibilities, and one is not sure of that, so what goes around comes around, said Skarsgård recalling what the other actors said.
Stellan Skarsgård around the world
Lastly, Stellan Skarsgård says that working on a fusion project from the films of his and those of the MCU, showcases the evolution of trying to have the fine balance between glamour and enjoyment as an actor.
As he continues to engage in award-winning projects such as Dune: Part Two, his experience with Marvel still stands to commend taking breaks in a number of places during working hours.
