Muad’Dib, Lisan al-Gaib… ‘Dune 2’ has given Paul Atreides many names, but they all have their own meaning

Arriving Dune: part 2 explains why it has earned positive reviews within days of its release. Denis Villeneuve has made a successful cinematic effort in translating Frank Herbert’s science fiction epic Inhe who is eagerly awaited on the desert planet of Arrakis, the Lisan al-Gahib and way more.

Caution! These spoilers paragraph would focus on those points which we all know after watching ‘Dune: Part 2’!

Tell me child, whose name are you, and in case your name is Usul

Paul Atreides is the central figure of Dune and in the credit of the given character Paul, quite a number of names are availed. Herbert’s Paul possesses many names and titles as other characters who weave round him during the story devises with different ascribed variables not unlike the Misses Holderness. And more exactly, in Dune 2 it has reactions in as much as five different ways.

Kwisatz Haderach

Having returned to that name – we have already heard it in the first film and every person viewing ‘Dune’ would clarify that this is one of the most significant terms contained in the history. For centuries, the Bene Gesserit has had a reproductive strategy in which they systematically mate people from every Great House in the hope of producing a male with exceptional abilities who would be known as the Kwisatz Haderach.

The Kwisatz Haderach consists of a combination of visions that cannot be forecast by the Bene Gesserit as they only benefit from one strand. For centuries or so they have been getting closer to creating this individual, however Jessica subverted her schemes when she opted to bear a son instead of a daughter. Most likely the aim was to get wed with Attreides or rather one of his children, or her in this case as Attreides and Harkonnens sought to create the Kwisatz Haderach who must have united the two hounds.

In the end, however, Don’t Kid Small Lord gave her son, Paul and now the Kwisatz Haderach arrived so many generations forward. Still, it is a controversial issue if it is actually Paul who is the one or shall we have to prologue for a little while more.

Prophet

Another name given to Paul also has to do with the Bene Gesserit: mahdi. This is a commonly accepted practice by the Bene Gesserit Missionaria Protectiva in order to control the indigenous people but it spiraled away from that and became an actual messianic belief for Fremen.

The “Mahdi” prediction centers on the belief of a stranger, who will come to redeem Arrakis and the Fremen, which basically means “the one who will lead us into salvation.” That is the reason why quite a number of the characters start to consider Paul as being the Mahdi… And more because at this time, he gives a name to himself which looks a bit confusing, a Fremen name.

Muad’Dib This is the name of a Fremen warrior Paul later adopts in the film (and the original book) when he has officially joined Sietch Tabr and has crystallized the admiration of the other members of all Stilgar’s soldiers. Upon submission to the Fedaykins’ customs, the most elite of all the Fremen warriors, and a number of tasks being completed, Stefan ik measures Paul worthy of a unique Fremen title.

And Paul has resolved henceforth, he will be called, “Muad’dib”. This is the name of a creature depicted in some scenes of ‘Dune’ and ‘Dune 2’ that was waisted as a desert mouse and even though Paul was once teased for such a decision by other warriors, Stilgar simply declared that it is a nice name. .

Muad’Dib is an intelligent creature, which makes water out of the moisture in the air by soaking it up through its ears. It is rich in resources, but remains hidden during the day, ready to go in the dark. Also, above the sky of Arrakis, there is a name ‘Muad’Dib’ and this is a term that is best remembered wholeheartedly by the people because this constellation has one of the main stars of the north direction and other people of the time out there. That is why Muad’Dib is also ‘the one who shows the path’ also inflating the importance of such prophecy concerning Paul.

Understand

Each fighter Fekaykin however has a Fremen name of the world in public but also a covert name. But only individual members of the Sietch Tabr and their closest associates are privy to this name. And to say such to anyone is to solicit excessive confidence and fondness for them as how Chani says her secret name is Sihaya.

This name is not chosen by Paul, however, he is instead given this secret name by Stilgar – Usul. This name means ‘the one with the strength of the name which is the base by the pillars of Mahbud’, and in the movie, the character Stiger is attributed this name for his firm belief in prophecies is one.

Lisan al-Gaib

In the first Dune film some characters call Paul “Lisan al-Gaib” after they see some signs of prophecy in him. This Fremen prophecy addresses, “The Voice of the Outer World” and promises that there will come a savior from the other world to the people of this planet who are locked in by colonizers.

The Fremen and the harsh climate and terrible inhabitants of Arrakis have been abused for quite a long time historically especially after the many years of brutal oppression of the Harkonnen and so it is no surprise that they hold onto the hope of the Lisan al-Gaib taken, Living up like a burning nail. The Lisan Al Hagueemosi of the Thusai is another forensic ball of weaving designed by the Benne Gesserit whittling down the locals in order to defend themselvesadding particulars like ‘his mother will be a Reverend Mother.’

When Paul begins to learn the ways of the Fremen, some of his fellow Sietch who were witches now see even more signs in him that those signs are prophecies coming to pass more than visions. And it does not help that Jessica pushes for the bending of the prophecy for a foreseen, and so they all in a short period he is regarded as the Lisan al-Gahib who was foretold.
