Chino Darín explained in ‘El hormiguero’ the scare he gave Úrsula Corberó. “My face swelled”

Eduard Fernández and Chino Darín appeared in the Spanish show El Hormiguero fo showcase Iron Hand, a new narco drama on the lives of drug traffickers set in a town in Barcelona, this new series is set to be released on Netflix on the 15th of March. Things took a rather unexpeced twist with them speaking about the physical changes and injuries that they had to undergo for their characters.

Darín recalled his performance for the movie The Angel as an overwhelming one in which he had to shed 12 kilograms for his role. It was a difficult phase for him as his optimal weight was around 59-60 kg which was dangerous for his health and well being. His girlfriend, Úrsula Corberó grew worried for his well-being because he became preoccupied with the idea of cutting calories. “I started cutting out all kinds of carbohydrates which is why my face was bloated,” he said. There was a time when Darín told the director to put him on diuretics to quicken the transformation but the director told him to maintain the integrity of the character’s body.

Returning to Iron Hand, Darín mentioned the struggles of getting into action scenes. He remembered one particular situation which was quite distressing. He was forced to cling to a moving car for a shot, directed to do the stunt himself instead of using a double. What seemed like a thrilling idea turned out to be a very difficult situation, as Darín had to do the stunt over 600 times and later got injured when a car’s handle came in contact with his ribs. There were other pains also, including those due to the use of motorcycles, always with the toughest scenes scheduled toward the end of the shoot. Nevertheless, these scenes were completed in spite of the pain which emphasized Darin’s determination and level of realism in the film.
