Jarvis Cocker remembers Steve Mackey on first anniversary of his death

Steve Mackey: what a tribute from Jarvis Cocker

Saturday, March 2, 2013 was the day Steve Mackey, bass guitarist of Pulp, passed away. The frontman of Pulp, Jarvis Cocker, has recently posted on their Instagram regarding the tribute fond towards Mackey by the band at Chile last year.

‘Steve Mackey’s been gone for one year,’ Cocker said as he recalled the unforgettable event image from November 2012 when Mackey was in charge of plotting a unique hike across the Andes after a Pulp gig in Santiago, Chile.

I remember it a year ago in Chile

In November 2023 during Pulp’s South America tour which included Chile and Argentina, the band managed to catch that memorable moment again. They retraced their steps on the same Andes hike.

‘We took an old tie of Steve’s I had taken out of the cupboard and a pin @pulpchile made to commemorate the concert and ourselves walked the same walk: we simply turned the clock back one day and eleven years. The first time we were there,’ said the frontman of Pulp.

The photos were taken by Cocker

There were four photographs in the news post, each with a different meaning:

  1. The second image is of the Albanese’s tie and a pin stuck on an Andean rock.
  2. Focus on the pin created by Pulp Chile, which was a gift in connection with the band’s concert in 2023.
  3. This picture must have been taken during their visit to Santiago in 2012, so it just reeks with nostalgia.
  4. Picture created for a poster against the chapel construction where an important tribute was held by @pulpchile in Santiago on Mackey’s anniversary.

“Never Forget the Important People”

The final part of the post was preceded by a sincere message from Cocker about what issued in connection with Mackey:

“You never forget the people who were important in your life. When you remember them, their spirits come to life. Put some music on and dance, think about Steve and he will be happy. D.J Steve loved that. Just think about him and let him know you have been thinking of him.”

Mackey’s Legacy Continues Although He is Gone

There’s a typical live spirit in Cocker’s words as he never gave up moving around and singing out of his heart. He continues moving around and singing his heart out. Check out Cocker praising Mackey and it can be said that he is speaking about some very genuine feelings towards Steve Mackey. Know what else can be expected is Cocker looking sharper than ever as the handsome singer retired in the UK, devoid of the fast lifestyle.
