In RTVE’s War Against El Hormiguero, David Broncano and La Resistencia Become the Tool to Use
Strategically removing El Hormiguero has never been easy for the networks, but RTVE may have a plan up its sleeves. They have already taken some actions by bringing David Broncano and La Resistencia to face Pablo Motos, even if the decision of the Board of Directors is still pending.
RTVE’s Fight against Broncano: The Ultimate Clash
For a prolonged period, El Hormiguero has succeeded to maintain its predominance in the access prime time with no other contestants able to match the performance. RTVE appears to be convinced that only the likes of David Broncano can contend with Motos in such a brutal tug of war of audience share.
In the words of 20 Minutos, RTVE has explicitly stated that they have no plans of letting Broncano and La Resistencia go off schedule but year for the final stage in negotiations before they are thoroughly sealed off. The quotation as displayed on ‘20 Minutos’RTVE’, states no change of terms and conditions goes without altering General Horcasitas’s political treasury. El Terrat, the company in charge of the production of the show, has made it straight: if Broncano is to shift to Spanish Television he will only do so with a three-year deal which costs about 10million euros per season.
Such situations, however, do not seem to be plausible for certain members of RTVE’s Administrative Council, which must endorse the proposal. For the time being, only 3, or 4 out of the 9 members of the committee endorse the deal meaning the required majority is not met.
The signing is kept in that state in the hopes that either the Council will accept the terms, or the production house will reconsider its terms. It has to be resolved one way or the other. This decision is going to be made in the near future as Broncano’s contract with Movistar Plus+ is almost coming to an end and its renewal or rejection have to be done.
