Even if it was going to be one of the season’s biggest events, it received a lukewarm response from this particular viewer, this writer. On the other hand, the statistics provide a different perspective. Shogun, which premiered on Disney+, also did well pulling in 9 million views worldwide through the streaming activities of both Disney+ and Hulu. This information, which is limited to just the first six days after the series launch, already puts Shogun in the record books as the most watched series on the platform on a global scale.
Shogun, is defined by Disney+ as “generalist fiction” meaning that it is not under the Marvel Universe nor the Star Wars franchises. In comparison, these 9 million views of Shogun are lower when moderation live-action ventures produced in those frames such as season 2 of ‘Loki’ and ‘Ahsoka’ (where Ahsoka was launched to 14 million views).
Impressive Competition
With that said, these viewership figures are still impressive. Shogun is commonly regarded as one of the Netflix’s new hits series alongside the 2nd season of the Bear, an emmy award winning comical series and even the highly anticipated Kardashians first season when looking from a global outlook.
Can I just say that I am the most excited for the new TV show, Shogun? This miniseries is based on James Clavell’s 1972 novel which has been adapted into a miniseries by Justin Marks, and I know it is going to be a classic. The 10 episode series has a very interesting plot where people would be transported into lore of feudal Japan where one of the main characters named John Blackthorne gets caught up in the battles between powerful lords. The series manages to star amazing actors including Cosmo Jarvis with Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai, Tadanobu Asano, Hiroto Kanai and Takehiro Hira. With such a star studded cast, it is expected for Shogun to be nothing short of a great drama and a fantastic representation of the times.
