Simón: What the critics say about the Venezuelan film that came to Netflix

Yesmovies offers a variety of productions and some are dealing on hard subjects like political exiles. One of such examples is Simón, the Venezuelan movie produced by Diego Vincentini.

The screen time of this movie is 99 minutes, during which Simón, a student activist from Venezuela, is depicted who after “fleeing the communist regime in Venezuela and starting a new life in Miami, is haunted by the memories of his former life.”

The film casts Christian McGaffney as Simón Zalache, along with Roberto Jaramilio as Chucho, Jana Nawartschi as Melissa and Franklin Virguez as Colonel Lugo.

The film was received positively by the audience and critics. An approval rating of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes indicates this.

Diario ABC has stated: “This is an affluent, quite worked-out film, within which there are archival documents depicting some of the enormous demonstrations of the period (…) It is not too overt and is deft in the way it deals with its topics.”

Crónica.uno on the other hand stated: “This is a feature film which is fictional in nature but contributes to the historical narrative yet the fiction seems plausible depicting an event that is still so real.”

Hoy Sale Cine classified it when describing Simón as “this is an extraordinary film showing us why we need to care more about the Venezuelan crisis. The movie takes sides showing the constant need for fighting against dictators and most importantly, change must never be advocated only.”
