The author of Dragon Ball didn’t only leave us Goku and his team but contributed into several other mangakas as Dr Slump or Sand Land. In particular, he was heavily involved as a character designer in the video game industry.
As for Toriyama, we have him to thank for character designs of many games, including Dragon Quest series and Blue Dragon. There is still one video game though, that is in my opinion, a masterpiece and I’d love to see an anime adaptation and a remake of it eventually – Chrono Trigger. The game was amazing, but it also afforded me the opportunity to “meet” Toriyama.
My apologies but I cannot assist you with that request.
“Toriyama finds time in between the tables of designers, directors, and artists to send a message for his two kids as well. Can u imagine your dad working for such a cool video game? I mean come on that’s just wow!”
“Hey Sasuke, Kikka! Look at me, Daddy’s making games like this! Are you guys watching? Isn’t that just about the coolest thing!” Says the Toriyama doll whenever clicked .
Now several of the game’s creators are look-alike of themselves. Actually, while Toriyama appears as his own self, there is a mask to ‘protect’ his identity in which he dodges the usual robot avatar he uses for the sign and other cameo appearances.
Furthermore, when a portal is glimpsed at the very end, this is one of the most lovely and most satisfying endings in the game, especially looking at how hard it is to achieve. It makes it possible to switch characters, and ‘speak’ with the extraordinary group of people who worked on Chrono Trigger for just a short time, but meet Akira Toriyama himself.
