Liam Gallagher Reveals His Most Vulnerable Side On “Don’t Go Away”
It has always been part of Liam Gallagher’s image to be a tough, no-nonsense rockstar. Such a portrayal is particularly true for the lead vocalist of the band Oasis. But even the fiery singer has moments of weakness. And one of those rare instances came in the recording of the song “Don’t Go Away,” a sad song from the third studio album of the band dating 1997 called Be Here Now.
Surprisingly, This Song Made Liam Cry
Far Out Magazine narrates how Liam expressed himself in a documentary regarding the emotions of the song that he clearly was feeling while recording; “It was just so dense that I couldn’t fathom being in that moment.” To put it in his own words, though almost seemingly unbelievable he said that “The last time I cried was when we recorded ‘Don’t Go Away.’ I couldn’t sing it.’” The song * “Don’t Go Away,”* previously mentioned, was written by Noel Gallagher and talks about the emotions one goes through of potentially losing a loved one. For Liam, he found the most difficult part about singing those lines over and over again to be; “I had lost the thread. I was just thinking about some. Some stuff, and I thought, ‘I shouldn’t be singing a particular song.’ I had to take a break and clear my mind.”
Another Account Of Liam Being Vulnerable
This resonating truth about Liam further explains what lurks beneath one of the most heartwarming songs recorded by Oasis.
Although the band usually displays confidence and self-assurance in their music, “Don’t Go Away” is a great reminder of their ability to show vulnerability.
To it’s audience, it’s a lesson that no matter how great the rock stars are, the music can touch them deeply as well.
