Thom Yorke and His Admiration of “Unravel” by Björk

Thom Yorke, the renowned lead vocalist of Radiohead, has never shied away from being labeled “weird” and has always loved listening to and creating music that is out of the box. Out of so many songs that have developed an affinity within him, he has one favorite song which is crafted beautifully in his own words ‘Unravel’ which is a song from Bjork’s Homogenic, his third album.

With dulcet tones of Saxophones accompanied by a church organ and electronic beats, the song really stood out to Yorke. According to reports from Far Out Magazine,Tom also commented on it, asserting that it is one of the most beautiful pieces of art he has ever seen.

Radiohead Covers “Unravel”: A Wish Granted

In an interview with Spin magazine back in 2006, Yorke gushed about Bjork’s work stating: “I’m attempting to persuade Radiohead to cover it; I believe it is one of the most lovely songs I’ve ever come across.” It’s clear then, that his admiration for this Icelandic artist was enormous due to the way her music affected his artistry.

A year later, Yorke’s dream became reality.

In 2007, during a live web broadcast, Radio head did their own version of the song “unravel” in a classy way that respected the beauty of the original song.

This particular song was a rare cover but it also helped to show the more experimental side of Radio heads music as they where able to learn from artists that they admired.
