Today on TV, the romantic drama that deserved the Oscar for best film and reaffirmed Heath Ledger as more than just a pretty face

Ang Lee’s film is a great example of a realistic romantic drama that is guaranteed not to be loved by everyone right away. Thanks to an ad campaign that expertly concealed the love story that was at the heart of the movie, many were caught off guard about its underlying romance at the time of its import. Although the film was praised by both critics and the audience alike, it did receive a lot of criticism from conservative groups.

In Wyoming: A Romance

Brokeback Mountain (or On Forbidden Ground) first debuted in 2005 based on a distinctive story written by Annie Proulx untitled – The Wavell’s”. Two young cowboys were employed to look after a herd of sheep during one summer period and in so doing they became romantically attached. The movie depicts every strand of their love for one another within a twenty-year time frame, focusing on the pain and discomfort caused by the need to adapt.

For those yet to view it or those who wish to reminisce, Brokeback Mountain was arguably one of the best movies released in the early 21st century and is in turn a must-watch. The movie airs tonight at 2200 hours, and it is available on Yesmovies: https://yesmoviesfree.online/.

Memorable Performances

Not only do Jared and Gyllenhaal offer stellar performances but also do some heart-wrenching in the same stride. Also the performances by Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway are good. However, the reviews for the American film, Brokeback Mountain are all good, but this movie has its own critics.

The movie was respecting and dealing very delicately with a topic of same-sex relationship in the US with all its social views back then. On the other hand the film was opposed by some Christian fundamentalist movements and Catholic Church. Quite astonishingly, though, the film achieved having success in Texas and other conservative parts of America because its representation of cowboy’s culture was so accurate.

What is beyond the doubt however is that Ang Lee is the writer and director of an innovative romantic drama whose storyline still resonates. The film had catapulted both Ledger and Gyllenhaal into the high league’s actors. Many had expected it would win the Best Picture Oscar at the 78th Academy Awards, but in a twist plot Crash, took the award, which even Jack Nicholson could not conceal his annoyance on the media just after winning the award.
